Challenge Charter Academy
The Challenge Charter Academy’s (CCA) overall mission is to create a small secondary school (grades 6th – 12th) with a caring, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that holds high academic and behavioral expectations for all students. It is a charter school in Newton County, GA. At CCA, students and staff have the opportunity to thrive. CCA is a school of choice and welcomes students from diverse backgrounds. Donations to this event will help enhance CCA’s quality of learning through: technology enhancement in classrooms (i.e. computers), counseling and teacher training, program development (i.e. sports department & physical education), and an introduction to the arts and music program.
The CCA’s philosophy of education is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world, and to humanitarian values such as compassion and peace. Here at CCA, we follow the Georgia Performance Standards, and we are in agreement with NCSS’s non-negotiable goals to increase student achievement and more effective teaching for all students.
CCA implements the Project Adventure, Inc. (PA) RESPECT model into its curriculum. RESPECT is a structured, research-based program that adapts the proven concepts, strategies, and tools of PA’s experience and adventure-based instructional methods to change a school’s learning environment. School wide facilitation of the RESPECT Program creates positive classroom environments that are conductive to learning. The core values that represent the learning community are:
- Be here
- Be safe
- Commit to goals
- Be honest
- Let go and move on
- Care for self and others
Consider your life's greatest challenges. What did you need to know to overcome the obstacles you faced? Consider your greatest successes. What did you need to know in order to achieve those successes? Then ask yourself, how many of those things that I needed to know did I learn in school? At the Challenge Charter Academy, our students are learning these answers to these questions due to the mission, our philosophy and the RESPECT Program.
